“Handsome,” Piceance-East Douglas HMA, Colorado. Hadn’t been able to find him since August of last year. It was so good to see him this Spring! He lost a bit of his tail, but gained 2 family members.

Handsome and his family were near a black stallion with a large band. While we were watching, the black stallion charged for Handsome’s girls, but even though Handsome has a chronic limp, that boy can get after it when he needs to. He gets the girls going and out of the area.

Safely away with his little family.

Until next time ‘ol boy…

Stallion “Slash”

May 12, 2018

Last time I saw Slash, he was a bachelor stallion. It’s been a while since I’ve seen him and I wonder if he’s still around or if he’s got a family now. He has a beautiful, wavy mane and forelock that makes him more easily identifiable amongst all the dark colored horses in Piceance. I hope that I’ll find him again someday and see that he’s doing just fine. (Another photo of Slash: https://nickolesphotography.wordpress.com/2012/09/08/waves/)

Quick Winter Visit

April 8, 2018

Tom and I made a very quick, 1/2 day visit to Piceance in early March. There wasn’t much snow, but the roads were still very wet and muddy. We were unable to venture into many areas, so consequently, saw few horses. But, we were treated to these and they all looked to be in good condition. Always a welcome sight coming out of winter.

Hello pretty girl.

Love your long, flowy mane.

While quietly watching one of my favorite horses, we heard running hooves (an amazing sound) and then from our right, we saw a family band come charging out of the trees in front of us. They’re quite a ways off, but what a sight! Running for the sheer joy of it. (Piceance-East Douglas HMA, CO)
