Photo of the Week – 6/9/18
June 9, 2018
It’s that time of year when bachelors are trying to steal mares to create a family of their own. It’s serious business. (Piceance-East Douglas HMA in Colorado)

He’s the bachelor going after the band stallion.

Sure does look determined! Appears hes already got battle scars. I bet watching this in person is downright scary. Hope neither of them are disabled after this.
Its always so sad to see a band stallion lose his family – I keep seeing pictures of Cloud in my mind – when it happened to him.

Hope they’re both OK and have parted ways.

Amazing photograph! I can feel the tension, smell the sweat and taste the dust. Wow! Scary, too. The bay looks like the equine version of a pit bull. I hope he didn’t latch on and hurt the black stallion or get hurt any worse himself. 😨

Karen and Chris – They were both fine when I left them. It’s a tough time, with hormones raging and it can be difficult to watch and document. I never want to see any of them get hurt.

Hi Maggie – yea, that bay has been in a fight or two. He’s just trying to win a family, but it’s hard on the stallions and some are injured in the process. It can be very hard to watch.
