Photo Of The Week – 9/22/11
September 22, 2011
An attentive Piceance Creek HMA band (Summer, 2011).
I spent a good deal of time with these horses this year; learning about them, their families and the area they call home. As I post this, there is a roundup underway in this HMA. How many of these gorgeous horses, these inquisitive faces, these peaceful souls will lose their home forever? Such a loss for all of us. I will just never understand or accept this method of management.
I will miss every horse removed that I had the privilege of spending a little bit of time with…
There is a recorded information line updated daily about where and when to meet to view the daily gather operations if you can attend: 970-878-3837.

I also hate these roundups. We are losing to many wild horses that will end up dead, injuried or stuck in holding pens for the rest of their life. I don’t understand the need to conduct so many of them and the methods they use to gather them. I hope something changes real soon for all of them but the wheels of justice are moving to slow. Thank you for sharing your photography of these incredible horses.

I just keep on pushing from NC. Must be especially hard for you! Thanks for allowing us to know them, too!

My heart breaks to think these beautiful wild creatures are in danger of, or have been, rounded up. Governments seem intent on destroying everything wild, good, and innocent and we can’t let them. My great love is Canada geese and their story is beyond sad too. Just keep fighting for them and in effect to preserve the few things in this world which are truly innocent and good. “The gross heathenism of civilization has generally destroyed nature, and poetry, and all that is spiritual”….John Muir

Pam,
How fortunate you are to be able to get close to these wonderful animals – and how lucky they are to have you.
Have read the reports from Deniz Bolbol at the current roundup
Listened to the video – so called – all you can see is people’s feet!!! Listening to the BLM rep calling the horses “trashy” –
as if the horses reactions to being harassed & chased & penned up are anything different than any horse going thru that.
Keep doing what youre doing, Pam.
Thanks
Maggie
