“Dream Horse” Update

May 14, 2011

A much anticipated update about Tess and her little Mustang filly…

Little One – Danika

The little mustang filly which I adopted nearly six months ago, is doing well in her new home. Her name is Danika, meaning Morning Star, for she truly was a little light that shown through the darkness.

I have been around horses since the age of six and gentled three of my own, but never have I been so amazed time and again how one little foal can want to learn and please so much. Danika is anything but dull of whit. She learns the first time nearly every time. She is now picking up her feet seemingly before i touch her hocks, coming to a whistle, working on lunging and leads just fine… so long as it’s not AWAY from the small grassy paddock I’m introducing her to. Then…her feet tend to drag. But who could blame her for that?

Her soft little nose, her shaggy little head, her bushy little tail and her sparkling little eyes all speak of her wild heart and the generations before her that roamed the land freely, yet she puts that aside just so she can get a scratch and nuzzle your face or nibble at your shoes.

Danika now has a play mate, Awen, a two year old filly born right here on the farm, to kick up their heels together and sometimes get a little too curious for their own good and even more rarely, too stubborn. But through it all, Danika is just a lovable little pony and I couldn’t be more proud.
