Photo Of The Week – 3/23/11

March 23, 2011

We spent last weekend at the Piceance Creek/East Douglas HMA near Meeker, Colorado. I’m happy to report that the horses we saw appear to have weathered the winter pretty well. Some were a bit on the thin side, but that’s very typical for wild horses coming out of this season. This band stallion had quite a large family – approximately 13 members.

Just beautiful Pam, I’m glad you got to go out. I always look forward to your photos and posts about them!

What a handsome guy. No wonder he’s so popular with the ladies! Kidding aside, it must take a really alert, strong, and determined stallion to hold onto that large a band.

was this an area that was gathered last year and have they been treated with PZP-22?

Thanks Karen – it felt SO good to be back out in the field. 🙂

That’s one of the larger bands I’ve seen out there Linda. He really must have it goin’ on. 🙂

Sandra – yes, Piceance Creek had a roundup last year. They’ve been treated with PZP in the past, but I don’t think they returned any horses last year. Someone please correct me if I’m wrong.

Thank you for your kind comment Debbie! I hope to see him again too.

One hansome man. Do you have any idea how old he is?
